My tank seems to have cycled with is cool but won't be adding any fish for another month and want to make sure i keep it going.
Have a few pieces of liverock and have been adding some fish flakes for ammonia  but not sure if i should carry on doing this as don't want to pollute the tank.
Do i need to keep adding Ammonia now that the tanks cycled with liverock?
I also have a few things growing on the liverock, how can i feed these to keep them growing or is it not neccesary. ( just some tubeworms and stuff)
Thanks all :)

Howdy newbie27,

WhiteDevil sent me a PM so I could help you a bit.  I have a few questions:

#1 How long have you been cycling the tank?
#2 Have you taken any measurements for ammonia, nitrates and nitrites?  If so what were they?

Now for a few answers:

As long as your nitrites and ammonia are at or very near 0 you can add the skimmer back on.
The little worms growing on your liverock are filter feeders and should require no direct feeding.  They will just eat algae/food/etc.
You should add a little bit of an ammonia producing substance (like fish food) every day until you add fish.  Then you will of course be adding fish food anyway.
You did not mention a "clean up crew" but you can also think about adding hermit crabs 1st - even before the tank is fully cycled.  I have seen hermit crabs living in some CRAAAAAAZY conditions.  They are tough as nails.
I will keep up on the thread but my wifey is yelling at me to go get some diapers  thinkin

Thanks for the reply Whitedevil
The readings were all good when i set the tank up but had to go away for a few months and when i came back and checked the reading again the Nitires were very high with everything else still ok. Did a 50% water change due to lots of insects and dust getting in the tank and added some liverock. After a few weeks the nitrite levels have gone back to normal but to be honest i've not had any spikes at all on anything else so i'm only assuming the tanks cycled.
